General Manager of Ducati Corse, Gigi Dall’Igna, is facing a tough decision for the 2025 MotoGP season: choosing between Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin to partner with Pecco Bagnaia in the factory Ducati team. This challenge has intensified after both riders delivered outstanding performances at the 2024 French MotoGP.

Adding to the complexity, Enea Bastianini is also determined to keep his spot, making Dall’Igna’s decision even harder. “This is my job, and I have to choose the best riders for our factory team and the best riders for our other teams,” Dall’Igna acknowledged, underscoring the weight of this decision.

Dall’Igna stressed the need for a prompt decision to ensure fairness to the riders. “We must not wait too long for justice towards the riders. We must respect them so as not to make them lose another opportunity,” he emphasized. The next few weeks will be critical as Ducati finalizes its lineup for the upcoming season.

The Contenders:

Marc Marquez: The six-time MotoGP World Champion seeks a competitive bike after years of challenges with Honda. His aggressive style and hunger for victory make him a strong candidate for Ducati.

Jorge Martin: Currently leading the championship, Martin has shown exceptional skill and consistency. His dream is to join the official Ducati team and continue his upward trajectory.

Enea Bastianini: Bastianini, unwilling to concede his position, has been a reliable performer for Ducati, making him an essential part of the consideration.

Dall’Igna’s Dilemma: Selecting between these top talents is no easy task. Each rider brings unique strengths and potential for Ducati’s success. Dall’Igna’s decision will shape the future dynamics of the team and the championship.

Conclusion:

The 2025 MotoGP season’s landscape hinges on Gigi Dall’Igna’s decision. With Marc Marquez, Jorge Martin, and Enea Bastianini all vying for a spot in the factory team, Ducati must act swiftly and strategically. The upcoming weeks will be pivotal in determining the final lineup, setting the stage for another thrilling season of MotoGP.

Marc Márquez already has two podiums aboard the Ducati Desmosedici GP23. The eight-time world champion finished second in the Spanish and French MotoGP Grands Prix.

With these results, he is currently third in the championship standings with 89 points – just two points behind the reigning champion for the past two years, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), after beating the Italian in a head-to-head battle at Le Mans.

Márquez’s impressive trajectory is notable, especially considering his recent difficult years marked by physical problems and Honda’s competitive decline.
Moreover, until this year, Márquez had only known one constructor and one team in the premier class, requiring him to adapt to a very different reality. This adaptation seems to have been quick, yielding strong results.

Gigi Dall’Igna, general director of Ducati Corse, was asked by the championship’s official site if he expected Márquez to be performing at this level after only five rounds. In response, he said: ‘You know, he is Marc Márquez, so for sure he can do something like that and he did’.

Francesco Bagnaia will not have an easy time in his fight for a third consecutive MotoGP title. After five rounds, the Ducati rider is already 38 points behind the leader, Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati), who has been leading the championship since the Portuguese GP and has rarely faltered.

As if that weren’t enough, the Italian also has to worry about Marc Márquez. The eight-time world champion has found a way to be competitive with the Gresini Ducati and this Sunday, he overtook Bagnaia in a direct duel for second place in Le Mans, now trailing by just two points in the championship.

Gigi Dall’Igna, General Director of Ducati Corse, acknowledged in statements to the official MotoGP website that Bagnaia’s task is not easy and the rider is not pleased with the result in France. However, the director was pleased with the performance he witnessed.

Anyway he did a fantastic in Jerez, he did a fantastic job also at this race. Of course he is not happy about the result because he would like to win this race and I think he could. But fighting with two other riders is not easy and at the end he is the third. But anyway I’m really happy with his race.

Once again, Ducati was the main protagonist of the MotoGP French Grand Prix. Yesterday’s main race at Le Mans had three bikes from the Italian manufacturer in the top three positions.

Having many bikes in the top positions provides more assurance of good results… but also the risk of losing successes due to incidents among riders of the same manufacturer.

In this case, Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati) was the winner, with Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati) in second after overtaking Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) on the last lap following an intense battle among the three.

Gigi Dall’Igna, general manager of Ducati Corse, watched it all from the garage… and the nervousness was anything but low. The Italian stated to the official MotoGP website:

It was not easy for me to watch this kind of race. And for sure I don’t know if I can arrive to the end of the season, because my heart is really, really under stress! [laughts].

Ducati once again showed supremacy in the French MotoGP Grand Prix, with three of its riders fighting for victory until the end – the winner Jorge Martín (Pramac Racing/Ducati), Marc Márquez (Team Gresini/Ducati), and factory team rider Francesco Bagnaia.

Others also demonstrated a high level of performance, such as Enea Bastianini, who set the fastest lap of the race, or Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46/Ducati), who equaled his best result of the season so far with a sixth-place finish.

At this point, Ducati is still considering who will be the second rider for the factory team in 2025, alongside Bagnaia. When asked by the official MotoGP website whether the Le Mans race made the decision easier or harder, Ducati Corse general manager Gigi Dall’Igna responded:

For sure more difficult, I guess. But this is my job and I have to select the best possible rider for our factory team and also the best possible riders for the other Ducati teams. So I have something to think during this week.

Marc Márquez entered the Ducati “universe” through the Gresini satellite team in the 2024 MotoGP season. Now, he’s seen as a candidate for the factory team next year, and Danilo Petrucci doubts that Ducati Corse’s general manager, Gigi Dall’Igna, will let the Spanish rider go easily.

The current rider in the Superbike World Championship told GPOne.com: ‘I don’t have internal information, but I have a hunch about what will happen with Márquez. I don’t know if there are issues related to energy drink sponsorship, but from what I understand – something I would regret for Enea [Bastianini] – Gigi Dall’Igna won’t let a rider like Márquez slip away. He led Ducati to victory because he’s relentless in his reasoning method, in the sense that he’s relentless in pursuing his goal’.

Petrucci believes that Dall’Igna is interested in seeing Márquez’s potential on the bike he designed, and regarding a possible move to the official team, he thinks the aspect of the relationship with Francesco Bagnaia will have to be considered:

Knowing his way of thinking, I think Gigi wants to understand what a rider like Márquez can do on his bike. Pecco is experiencing an incredible moment and has always made a difference in crucial moments, but I don’t know if he would be satisfied if Marc came. Perhaps this aspect should also be evaluated here. The human side of the garage. Then there can be two great champions, each doing their own task.

After complimenting the race done on sunday by Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia, Gigi Dall’Igna also didn’t forget to mention Marc Márquez, highlighting the spaniard and saying he is ‘a champion rediscovered’, which made the #1’s race even more valuable.

At LinkedIn, the General Manager Ducati Corse at Ducati Motor Holding addressed the Spanish GP and the fierce battle between both Ducati riders and after praising Bagnaia, also made point of giving a word to the Gresini Racing rider, saying: ‘All this also thanks to a stalwart and indomitable Márquez, a champion rediscovered who enhances Pecco’s achievement even more, as well as doing justice to his team and to the great work they are all doing together’.

Dall’Igna saw the duel hard but with a lot of respect: ‘It was a tough but fair contest, with mutual respect, and the sign of great sportsmanship between these two greats at the end of the race is testimony to that, a gesture that I really appreciated and that gives me particular satisfaction’.

And concluded with a note regarding the championship, adding:

– This will be a long World Championship to all intents and purposes, one for all tastes: there will be no shortage of errors and race incidents. This will be true for all. In addition to the technical aspect, it will be crucial to manage emotionality well, between moments of joy and those of discouragement and tension, to find a constant balance based on the awareness of always needing to give everything one has in store. Come on, Ducati!

There isn’t much more to be said about the crazy and intense battle between Pecco Bagnaia and Marc Márquez on the Spanish GP, last sunday, and Gigi Dall’Igna even comes to accept the intensity put on track, highglighting this was a race and battle that will ‘linger in the memory’ for a long time.

At LinkedIn, the General Manager Ducati Corse at Ducati Motor Holding was clearly super excited with what happened on track, writing: ‘A wonderful, spectacular, overwhelming victory at Jerez, for which it is worth “going overboard”, yes! A masterpiece set in a splendid Ducati podium, with 3 different teams, and enclosed in a frame that has 5 of our bikes in the top five positions. These are races that linger in the memory and in the soul, and that count most, if one might say so, for teams and riders alike: they go beyond the joy of an excellent performance, they give satisfaction for the work done and inspire strength and confidence for whatever is to come […]’.

He continued: ‘The fastest lap in the finale, after a no-holds barred battle, says it all about an exciting duel of the highest technical level between two outstanding riders who lapped in record times until the very end’.

And then set his attention on Bagnaia, winner of the duel and the race: ‘To say the least, an outstanding Pecco, starting from the very first lap with exceptional and textbook riding, put his personal seal on a difficult, fiery race, which expressed all the technique, intelligence and character of which he is capable. An important reaction was needed, all the more so after the bitterness left by the Sprint, and so it materialised’.

For the italian, such battle was risky but the #1 showed why he has that number on his bike: ‘Rekindling the fortunes of the weekend has now become his hallmark: the strength to always find great motivation, to leave everything behind and to concentrate solely on the race, giving the best of himself, never sparing himself, in a bruising combat that is as spectacular as it is insidious for all the risks entailed. In other words, he stood tall and victorious with the authority justified by the number one on his fairing’.

The MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix witnessed a fierce battle for victory between Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) and Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati) – the first since the Spaniard joined Gresini and started riding a Ducati.

Gigi Dall’Igna, Ducati’s general manager, naturally paid attention to the duel, considering it one of Bagnaia’s best performances ever, with some key moments as he told quoted by Motosan.es:

Pecco had one of his best races, and honestly, I’ve seen many. For me, the best moment was his outside overtaking at the start, and then how he resisted Márquez. In the end, he set an incredible time. He showed he deserves his two world titles. The early laps and the start were two key phases of the race.

Regarding the moment he believes was decisive for Bagnaia to overcome Márquez, Dall’Igna stated: ‘I think Pecco’s 1m37.4s lap, which he did at the end of the race, made the difference because it cut off Márquez’s legs. And at that moment, he won the race’.

At this moment, Márquez is one of the candidates to join the Ducati factory team in 2025, becoming teammates with Bagnaia. The Italian has already renewed his contract until the end of 2026. The current spot is held by Enea Bastianini, who is currently third in the championship.
