Nicholas Spinelli won both races of the French MotoE Grand Prix held on Saturday in Le Mans. Thus, he now has three victories in four races this season, but he is still second in the championship, just two points behind the new leader – Mattia Casadei.

The pole position was taken by Héctor Garzó (Dynavolt Intact GP), who led at the end of the first lap in the first race before being overtaken by Spinelli. The Italian managed to lead every lap until the checkered flag, although the margins were not considerable. Garzó was in the podium fight until he crashed five laps from the end.

This left Casadei (LCR E-Team) in third place, but the Italian eventually lost it to Kevin Zannoni (Openbank Aspar) on the penultimate lap, having to settle for third place. Spinelli won with a 1.353s gap over Zannoni. Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar) finished fourth.

In the second race, Spinelli also prevailed. The Italian was already leading the race at the end of the first lap and, after spending some time in second place, he overtook Casadei to return to the top on the fourth lap.

The fight lasted until the end, with Spinelli managing to withstand Casadei’s pressure to cross the finish line with a 0.139s margin. Óscar Gutiérrez (Axxis-MSI) closed the podium 0.410s behind, with Alessandro Zaccone (Tech3 E-racing) in fourth. Garzó crashed again, this time on the second lap.

The MotoGP World Championships return this weekend, crossing the Pyrenees for the French GP at Le Mans. MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3 will be in action as usual, as well as MotoE for its second round of 2024.

In MotoGP, Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati) leads despite his first retirement of the year in Jerez. He is 17 points ahead of Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), who is motivated by his second victory of the season. Enea Bastianini (Ducati) is third, 22 points behind, followed by Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GasGas Tech3/KTM), who is also coming off his worst result of the year.

After failing to continue his strong performances in Jerez, Maverick Viñales will try to bring Aprilia back to the top when he is fifth in the World Championship – just ahead of Marc Márquez (Gresini), who stepped onto the podium for the first time with a Ducati in the previous round.

This is Fabio Quartararo’s (Monster Energy Yamaha) home round, and he faces another tough task. At home, he will try to return to the top ten, which has eluded him since the Portuguese GP, and continue working on the development of the YZR-M1.

With three consecutive second places, Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex) leads Moto2, just five points ahead of Sergio García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro). Fermín Aldeguer (SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) is third, recovering from a less-than-ideal start, already with one victory and 15 points behind the top. Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex), in fourth, is the last one who could mathematically surpass Roberts in the French GP.

Looking at Moto3, two riders are starting to stand out at the front. Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) leads with just six more points than David Alonso (CFMoto Aspar). In third is Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP), who, despite his victory in Spain, is already 22 points behind Alonso and therefore unlikely to rise further in the standings in the French GP.

In Le Mans, the MotoE World Championship returns to action with the second round of the season. Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) is currently leading with one more point than Héctor Garzó (Dynavolt Intact GP), while Nicholas Spinelli (Tech3 E-Racing) is third, 16 points behind the top, after already having secured a victory in Portimão.

After a dramatic season opener, the classic Sarthe venue welcomes the FIM Enel MotoE World Championship for more electric action.

Round 1 of the 2024 FIM Enel MotoE World Championship got the season underway in dramatic style at Portimão, with plenty to talk about ahead of the second round at the classic Le Mans. Reigning World Champion Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) is back in the hot seat, leading the standings thanks to two podiums in Portugal, but it’s just a single point in it at the top as Hector Garzo (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE) looms close following two second places at Round 1. And there are some key contenders looking to hit back against both.

The first will be Nicholas Spinelli (Tech3 E-Racing), who won Race 1 on the Algarve and then crashed out of the second. He also arrives from that blockbuster WorldSBK win. Eric Granado (LCR E-Team), who crashed out the lead in Race 1 and then fought for the podium before being forced to settle for fourth in Race 2, is another who’ll want a lot more in France. Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar Team), a winner last year at Le Mans, likewise.

Meanwhile, Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE) is looking for his mojo after a tougher first round, although his 2023 French GP proves his ability to bounce back. He crashed out the first race in an incident he got a Long Lap for and then came out swinging in Race 2, despite that, to take his first win of the year.

Riders who boasted some mojo in Portugal were the likes of Lukas Tulovic (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE) and Kevin Zannoni (Openbank Aspar Team), with the duo sitting P4 and P5 in the Championship ahead of a date with Le Mans. Tulovic is just two points adrift of Spinelli and will be hunting a first MotoE rostrum since his 2021 Austria win. Will that come this weekend? Or can he attack for the podium?

Two more races are coming up in Le Mans as the electric class returns to action at a legendary venue. Tune into qualifying at 16:15 (UTC +2) on Friday afternoon, before the two eight-lap battles get underway at 12:15 (Race 1) and 16:10 (Race 2) on Saturday!

Mattia Casadei secured his first victory of the MotoE season this Saturday in the second race in Portimão. The reigning champion was consistently part of the leading group but only secured the win on the final lap of a race filled with excitement and uncertainty.

Nicholas Spinelli (Tech3 E-racing) had a good start, taking the lead with the holeshot, followed by Héctor Garzó (Dynavolt Intact GP). The Spaniard moved into the lead on the second lap of the race. Casadei (LCR E-Team) was in third, closely followed by his teammate Eric Granado.

At the start of the third lap, Spinelli regained the lead, but shortly after, he received a double Long Lap penalty for a jump start. He did not serve it as he crashed moments later and retired from the race. Garzó reclaimed the lead.

With four laps to go, the race was wide open, with a tight group battling for the top positions. Granado moved into second place with a spectacular pass on Casadei on lap 5 of the seven scheduled.

Óscar Gutiérrez (Axxis-MSI) made an impressive double overtake on the main straight at the beginning of the following lap to move into second, just as Casadei regained position from Granado.

Once again, the fight for the win was uncertain and thrilling until the end. Casadei overtook Gutiérrez and Garzó to take the lead. The reigning champion successfully defended his position until the end to claim victory.

Garzó finished second, with Gutiérrez in third. Granado was fourth, and two-time champion Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar) crossed the line in fifth.

Nicholas Spinelli claimed victory in Portimão in the first race of the MotoE World Championship season. Emotions ran high until the last meters of the race this morning at the Algarve International Circuit, in a fight for the win that involved three riders.

Héctor Garzó (Dynavolt Intact GP) had a strong start, rising to the lead from the second row of the grid, while Spinelli (Tech3 E-racing) settled into second. However, in the opening lap, he was overtaken by Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) and his teammate Eric Granado, who hadn’t made a good start from pole position.

On the main straight of the second lap, Granado impressed by moving from third to first. Garzó also lost position to Casadei. However, on the same lap, Granado threw it all away with a crash that took him out of the race. Casadei took advantage to take the lead ahead of Garzó, who was soon overtaken by Spinelli… only to regain the position one lap later.

At the start of the fourth lap, Spinelli used the slipstream to pass the two opponents in front of him and take the lead. Garzó moved up to second, swapping places with Casadei. Position changes in the leading group continued, and two laps from the end, Garzó was back in the lead.

On the penultimate lap, disaster struck for Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar) and Alessandro Zaccone (Tech3 E-racing). The Italian was too optimistic in an overtaking attempt, they collided with both falling. The incident was immediately under investigation.

The battle then unfolded between Garzó, Spinelli, and Casadei. The key overtake occurred at the first corner of the last lap, with Spinelli firmly taking the lead. The Italian then managed to hold onto the position until the end to become the first winner of the season. Garzó finished second, with Casadei rounding out the podium.

Lukas Tulovic (Dynavolt Intact GP) finished fourth ahead of Kevin Zannoni (Openbank Aspar). Chaz Davies (Aruba Cloud MotoE), making his return to competition in his MotoE debut, managed to finish in eighth place in a race where he encountered no major setbacks.

Eric Granado secured the pole position in the MotoE World Championship at Portimão this afternoon. The electric motorcycle championship makes its debut at the Portuguese circuit this year to kick off the new season.

Qualifying began with Q1 to determine the final two qualifiers for the pole position battle. The strongest turned out to be Miquel Pons (Axxis-MSI), who outpaced Lukas Tulovic (Dynavolt Intact GP) by 0.193s. Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini), the 2019 champion, missed out on Q2 access by finishing third, 0.214s behind Tulovic. Consequently, he will start from 11th on the grid in the races at Portimão. Further down was rookie Chaz Davies (Aruba Cloud MotoE), eighth in Q1 and 16th on the grid.

In Q2, ten riders took to the track to battle for pole position. Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) was the initial leader but was later overtaken by Nicolas Spinelli (Tech3 E-Racing)… who held the top spot for only a brief moment before Granado set the best qualifying time.

The Brazilian from LCR E-Team clocked a time of 1m46.470s to claim the top spot, beating Spinelli by 0.067s. Casadei will start from third, having been 0.116s slower than Granado. Héctor Garzó (Dynavolt Intact GP) finished fourth, sharing the second row of the grid with Alessandro Zaccone (Tech3 E-Racing) and Óscar Gutiérrez (Axxis-MSI). The two-time champion Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar) will start from seventh in both races.
