Liam Everts (Red Bull KTM) finished third, 8.044s behind, while Coenen (Nestaan Husqvarna) finished fourth ahead of Thibault Benistant (Monster Energy Yamaha).

Liam Everts scored a great MX2 win in Águeda yesterday, taking a double victory on Portuguese soil, with the icing on the cake being his rise to third place in the overall standings.

In the first race, the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider dethroned Simon Laengenfelder (Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing) by 5.880seconds, which shows the difference between the two riders at the front and the rest since, while 5s is a considerable difference, the third-placed rider of the day, precisely #516’s teammate, was 33.021s behind the winner.

The top five was rounded off by the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory duo, with Rick Elzinga and Thibault Benistant in fourth and fifth, in that same order.

For yesterday’s second race in Águeda, the differences between the leaders were even more noticeable, with Everts dominating with a 1:21.173s gap to Elzinga this time, while Monster Energy Triumph’s Mikkel Haarup was third at 2:25.313s. Yes, you read that right!

Benistant was fourth and thus improved one position on the previous race, finishing ahead of Jens Walvoort (KTM SB Racing).

Looking at both races, you can see that this was a particularly difficult round for many, with some riders being overtaken several times.

Everts picked up 50 points and moved up to third place in MX2 with 188 points, while Kay de Wolf, leader with 246, didn’t get any further than the 32 points he picked up in Portugal.

It won’t be one, it won’t be two, but three rounds of the MXGP motocross World Championship in Spain this year. The final slot on the calendar has been confirmed, with Castilla La Mancha hosting on September 28th and 29th.

In addition to MXGP, the MX2 World Championship and the European EMX125 and EMX250 will also be in action. Currently, Spain is experiencing success in MXGP, with Jorge Prado having been champion last year and leading the 2024 season.

In March, Xanadù hosted the Spanish MXGP, while on May 11th and 12th, it will be the turn of the Galicia MXGP in Lugo, before this round in Castilla La Mancha. It will be the last one of the year, where champions can be crowned.

The track is described by the official championship website as ‘challenging and diverse, featuring spectacular jumps and tight corners’, promising to push the riders to their limits.

Although it arrived on the calendar at a late stage, it is a project aimed at solidifying the region’s connection to global motocross for many years to come.

Liam Everts secured the MX2 win in the MXGP of Trento on Sunday, counting towards the Motocross World Championship. Despite not winning any of the races, he was the rider who accumulated the most points.

Kay de Wolf arrived in Pietramurata after dominating the first three rounds of the year. However, the events in Italy unfolded differently, and the championship leader was unable to maintain his streak.

In the first race, Sacha Coenen (Red Bull KTM) led in the early laps after grabbing the holeshot, with de Wolf (Nestaan Husqvarna) in second until he completed the pass on the fifth lap. From then on, he never relinquished the position and even finished first with a 3.751s lead over Thibault Benistant (Monster Energy Yamaha). Everts (Red Bull KTM) finished third, while Coenen retired two laps from the end.

The holeshot in the second race was taken by Simon Längenfelder (Red Bull GasGas), while de Wolf fell early on and fell behind. No one had the pace to beat Längenfelder, who secured victory in the race with a 9.975s gap over Everts. The Belgian moved into the lead ahead of Andrea Bonacorsi (Monster Energy Yamaha) on the sixth lap, becoming Längenfelder’s main pursuer until the end. Bonacorsi finished third, followed by Benistant. De Wolf recovered to eighth place.

In the overall classification of the MXGP of Trento in MX2, Everts was the winner with 42 points, two more than Benistant. Längenfelder was third with 38 points, de Wolf was fourth with the same 38 points, and Camden Mc Lellan (Monster Energy Triumph) completed the top five.
