The new Regulation (EU) 2024/1257 of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 24, 2024 on the type-approval of motor vehicles and engines, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles, with regard to their emissions and battery life (Euro 7) has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

The change now enshrined in law, which will soon apply in all EU member states, focuses on emissions from brakes and tires in cars and commercial vehicles and on battery requirements for electric vehicles.

Euro 7 also raises the bar for exhaust emissions and testing procedures, particularly for heavy goods vehicles and buses.

Euro 7 sets stricter standards for emissions approval, production compliance, in-service compliance and market surveillance. It also addresses crucial aspects such as on-board monitoring systems, pollution control system durability, traction battery life, tamper prevention and cybersecurity measures.

In addition, the regulation includes provisions for accurately determining CO2 emissions, electric range, fuel and electrical energy consumption and energy efficiency.

It’s important to remember the enormous progress made so far on emissions. According to ACEA, vehicle emissions fell by 90% between the first Euro standard and the first version of Euro 6.

ACAP, in line with ACEA data, stresses that in order to truly achieve the Euro 7 objectives of reducing emissions, policymakers must do more to replace the oldest and most polluting vehicles on the road with newer models equipped with the most advanced emissions technology. It’s not just about incentives to increase the uptake of newer vehicles on the market, but also about establishing a holistic regulatory framework that keeps mobility accessible to all Europeans while reducing its environmental impact.

The regulation applies from November 29, 2026 to new types of vehicles in categories M1 and N1, and from May 29, 2028 to new types of vehicles in categories M2, M3, N2 , N3, O3 and O4.

With regard to tires, the regulation applies from July 1, 2028 to new types of tires in class C1, from April 1, 2030 to new types of tires in class C2 and from April 1, 2032 to new types of tires in class C3.

The upcoming Royal Enfield Guerilla 450 has been spotted testing again. This time, we have a clearer look at the upcoming bike. Previously, the Guerilla 450 was expected to be called the Royal Enfield Hunter 450.

Some new details that the latest photographs reveal include a displaced fuel cap, placed on the right side of the fuel tank. We also get a better look at the bike’s frame, which is the same as that of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.

Everything else is similar to the test bike we saw earlier. The front design is similar to that of the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 and the rear section is inspired by the Himalayan 450. The Guerilla 450 will most likely share the Sherpa engine from the Himalayan. The 452cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine produces 40 hp at 8000 rpm and 40 Nm at 5500 rpm. However, Royal Enfield can tune it differently to suit the character of the Guerilla 450.

Due to be launched in mid-July, the Royal Enfield Guerilla 450 will compete with the Triumph Speed 400 and the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401.

At Honda’s invitation, we went to Marseille to see the new version of the CB650R and try out the brand new technology developed by Honda: the E-Clutch.

The aesthetic differences aren’t many, but they are noticeable: the front headlight is slightly different, as are the radiator guards and the rear unit. These changes give the CB650R a more aggressive and modern look and, as well as updating the model’s aesthetics, improve its aerodynamics and performance.

With the introduction of E-Clutch technology on the CB650R, Honda aims to mark a new chapter in the motorcycle riding experience. This Honda innovation combines familiar elements such as the quickshifter, manual clutch and dual-clutch transmission system. Weighing just 2 kilos, the E-Clutch system is ultra-compact and does not alter the clutch or transmission hardware.

The way this system works is very simple: you can drive normally, just as you’re used to, without having to use the clutch lever to change gears or make clutch points. Simply press the pedal with your left foot to change gear quickly and consistently. The E-Clutch system is activated as soon as the engine is started and manages all start and stop scenarios smoothly, eliminating the possibility of the engine “going down”.

In addition to the pleasure and convenience, the E-Clutch proved flexible over the 130 km we drove on French roads. The fact that we had the clutch lever available to activate at any time gave us a feeling of peace of mind for the first few kilometers. The system also allows us to select a level of “running feel”, adjusting the force required on the gear pedal to make a gear change.

We recently mentioned Great Wall Motor’s plans to launch its own motorcycle company and a huge tourer with an eight-cylinder engine, but it’s still a surprise to see that the bike has already been launched. What’s more, it’s been launched with the backing of a major global car company, so there’s a chance it could be a real contender.

Great Wall officially presented its Souo motorcycle brand and its first models, the S2000 GL and ST touring bikes, competitors to the Gold Wing, at the China Beijing International Motorcycle Exhibition. Although technical details were scarce during the launch, the company promises to reveal all the details in a few months’ time, when production is expected to begin.

Great Wall Motor, or GWM, may not be a familiar brand to us, but it is the 19th largest car manufacturer in the world in terms of market capitalization, with a value of 28 billion dollars, which puts it on a par with Kia and well ahead of companies like Subaru or Nissan. It already has several car brands, including Ora, Haval, Wey, Tank and Great Wall, which are marketed internationally, and Souo marks its first step into motorcycling.

Source:https://www.cycleworld.com

And it’s not a hesitant step. The company’s logic is that it wants to sit at the top of the table, which means competing with market leaders like Honda. So why not aim for Honda’s flagship model, the Gold Wing? That’s precisely what the S2000 GL and ST models do; the GL is aimed at the Gold Wing Tour, complete with top case and passenger backrest, while the ST just has side cases, like the base version of the Gold Wing.

The known specifications of the bikes are, in all cases, a step up from Honda. While the Gold Wing has a 1,833cc engine, the Souo has a 2,000cc engine. The Honda uses a seven-speed semi-automatic transmission with dual clutch. The Souo has an eight-speed DCT. The Gold Wing has single overhead camshafts, while the Souo uses a DOHC layout and, most importantly, the Honda has “only” six cylinders and the Chinese rival uses eight.

Source:https://www.cycleworld.com

The actual layout of the bike is very similar to that of a Gold Wing. The cast aluminum frame is like the Wing’s design, and at the front the Souo uses a Hossack-style girder fork, suspended on double arms with a single shock absorber. This is the same solution that has already been adopted by both of its main six-cylinder rivals, the Gold Wing and BMW’s K 1600 range. A copy? Perhaps, but would it be classified as such if Souo had used conventional telescopic forks like almost every other motorcycle on the market? The fact is, for big, heavy bikes, there’s a logical engineering reason for using the Hossack-style front end. It allows a relatively soft spring for comfort without inducing too much brake damping. It’s not yet known whether the suspension is semi-active, but given the rest of the bike’s equipment, it seems likely.

CFMOTO has always outdone us over the years and, from time to time, it has improved its products, trying to raise the bar while maintaining a low price. It’s a formula that, like it or not, doesn’t always work out as expected, but that can’t be said of the Chinese brand.

Catching the eye this time, after the debut of the new adventure 450, is the CFMOTO 500SR Voom, a sports bike that impresses with its design and much-loved in-line four-cylinder engine. A 500 with a four-cylinder engine? That’s right, it seems that manufacturers are once again entering this market segment, now abandoned, but which is slowly flourishing again.

The eye immediately falls on the design and lines of this medium-sized sports bike, which are truly intriguing. The front end with twin headlights, when the bike is on, gives off a luminous signature reminiscent of the retro style of motorcycles from the 80s and 90s. The headlight isn’t the only reminder of the legends of motorcycling, the shapes of the fairing and windshield take us back to the trends of the sports bikes of 30/40 years ago (Honda CBR400R, Suzuki GSX-R400, Kawasaki ZXR400…). Signature light aside, as soon as we saw it from the front, our eyes went wide because the headlights were very reminiscent of those on the Maxi Enduro DesertX.

A small curiosity about the headlights: they are “slotted” in the middle and also function as air intakes for the in-line four.

The raised side exhausts combined with the rear-view mirrors – attached to the ends of the semi-handlebars – give the CFMOTO 500SR Voom a vintage and elegant look.

The CFMOTO 500SR Voom already indicates in its name that it is a “half-liter” motorcycle which, at first glance, would not be very different from the current CFMOTO 450SR and CFMOTO 450SR S. The secret ingredient that makes this model even more surprising is the four-cylinder engine (twin-cylinder in the case of the “450”).

Unfortunately, precise figures and values have not been provided, but given the displacement, CFMOTO’s new mid-cylinder sports model could have around 70/80 hp of maximum power.

It all sounds very nice, perhaps too much so…. The bad news was yet to come: for the time being, this model will be dedicated exclusively to the domestic market, i.e. China. Currently, in Europe, the segment is defended by the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR and we’re waiting for the Kove 450RR.

KTM is a brand that likes to renew its motorcycles within a short space of time after they are launched. The company was recently spotted testing a trio of next-generation models as the launch of the 2025 models approaches.

First up is perhaps KTM’s most extreme high-cylinder adventure bike in many years, in the form of a model that will probably be called the 1390 Rally. We already know that KTM’s “1390 ″ engine gets an additional power boost and is set to spread across the company’s range of twin-cylinder engine models. It was launched for the 2024 model year in the 1390 Super Duke, so it’s logical to expect it to appear in a 1390 Super Adventure in 2025.

The new Rally model, however, is more of a surprise. Although KTM has made rally bikes with large twin-cylinder engines since the days of the 950 Rally, in recent years it has focused more on “adventure” than hardcore off-road performance. This new prototype, however, suggests a return to the 950 Rally era, with styling clearly inspired by the company’s Dakar bikes.

Moving on to the next prototype on the list, the 1390 Super Adventure S is a logical replacement for the current 1290 Super Adventure S and, once again, many components from the current model are carried over to the next-generation machine.

Source::https://www.cycleworld.com

Once again, it makes sense for the Super Adventure to adopt the 1390 twin-cylinder engine from the latest Super Duke, albeit in a detuned form, but there’s no need to completely redesign the frame to which it’s bolted. As such, the visible parts, including the suspension, swingarm, brakes and seat subframe, all appear to be the same as on the current bike. The big changes are in the styling, with an even more angular look to the new machine, as well as an interpretation of KTM’s latest headlight design, with “floating” headlight sections framing a pair of stacked central headlights.

Finally, CycleWorld’s photographer spotted an unfinished prototype of a bulkier travel-oriented model, which we call the 1490 Super Adventure. Once again, it follows some of the usual Super Adventure themes – the side-mounted fuel tanks and the raised riding position – but it’s clearly a road-oriented bike, with 17-inch rims at the front and rear, rather than the usual 19- or 21-inch rims associated with the “adventure” market. Once again, the seat subframe and frame appear to be shared with the current 1290 Super Adventure, but there’s a new swingarm – which appears to be a prototype rather than a production piece – and a very temporary-looking exhaust.

I’ve already talked about LiveWire’s latest patent for “virtual brakes” and how I’m not sure it’s a good idea. But what I didn’t get a chance to talk about, at least in that article, was three included drawings that seem to show a long-forgotten e-bike/e-dirtbike concept.

The year is 2018 and the LiveWire is still part of Harley-Davidson’s core portfolio. But in a forward-looking statement made by the company, it released design sketches, concepts and what appeared to be customer-ready models, including an e-bike/e-dirtbike.

Harley-Davidson parted ways with LiveWire and we never heard of these concepts again. That is until their recent patent, which appears to show such an electric vehicle.

I mean, it’s clearly the same design. The same bicycle frame, the same suspension configuration, the same battery with fins. What we don’t know, however, is why LiveWire decided to use this old concept for one of its new patents.

Source:https://www.rideapart.com

Companies use strange designs or old concepts all the time to hide future products from prying eyes. But why didn’t LiveWire just use the Del Mar or Mulholland designs? Why dig up this long-forgotten EV dirtbike/bicycle concept from when the future was bright and LiveWire was very promising?

These questions lead me to believe that maybe, just maybe, this design could be used by the brand in the near future. Honestly, it’s no secret that LiveWire is struggling. And their offerings are quite expensive. An easy way to make some quick cash would be to produce something like an electric bike or something along the lines of a Dust.Moto or Surron.

It wouldn’t save the company, but it would go a long way towards reducing negative revenue.
